The drama of the end of the regular season never disappoints. With only 20 days left, teams at the bottom of the table are making their last push, giving it everything they got. While teams at the top find themselves losing games they would have normally won. Such is life in the WNBA.
City of Seattle Renames Street Sue Bird Court
The five-Olympic gold medalist will be immortalized by way of a street sign. A portion of Second Ave North was permanently renamed in Bird’s honor.
“Sue Bird is more than a basketball legend – her legacy transcends the game as a symbol of excellence, determination, and the power of sports to inspire and uplift communities. Like the Space Needle or Starbucks, Sue's name is synonymous with Seattle – a true icon whose impact on our city’s cultural fabric and the world of sports will be felt for generations. Renaming this street in her honor is a testament to the lasting impact she has had on our city, an impact that will always be a celebrated part of Seattle’s history,” Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell stated.
This isn’t the only way the Storm have honored the legendary point guard. Eagle-eyed viewers can spot a silhouette of Bird on the Storm’s home court.
And that is the power of lesbianism.
Stewie 3 x Harry Potter Collab
Speaking of Stewie’s shoes that I didn’t crop out of that screenshot (my segues are not getting any better), a new Stewie 3 colorway is about to drop just in time for Halloween. No one could have expected a mashup between one of the greatest children’s novels of all time and one the greatest basketball players of all time, but here we are. And we are so happy to be here. The shoe features snakes, skulls, and the title character’s signature lightning bolt over a black base with smoke graphics. It’s the perfect goth basketball shoe, if I do say so myself.
You can order the shoes starting September 5 at 9PM PDT here.
Fictional Character Draft Pick of the Week
Let’s keep the Harry Potter Theme going. This week, it’s Hermione Granger.
Now walk with me on this one. We know she’s smart. We know she likes to have a plan. We know she has some experience with time manipulation. You know who else played like she can see 10 seconds into the future? Sue Bird. Anyone who has ever watched her play would swear she could predict exactly where her teammates would be, allowing her execute the perfect assist. Do you expect anything less from the all-time assist leader? Another thing to note is Hermoine’s courage. She is a Gryffindor after all. Meaning, she would have the courage to stand up to the couch if she feels the vibes are off or if the plan won’t work. For these reasons, I would put her in the Mystics. Brittney Sykes could use the support and I truly think she could draw up better plays than their current coach.
